Vendee Globe Report
Monday, Feb 12, 2001 Rhythm of the Race Exciting to the end as Sill may have set a new 24 hour record. Standings table Click for Vendee Globe Results Fleet round up section Ellen Macarthur sailed Kingfisher over the finish line at 2036 GMT on Sunday. Her official time of 94 days 4 hours 25 minutes and 40 seconds is the second fastest ever, and the fastest ever by a women. For Macarthur it seems that this circumnavigation won't be the last. After finishing she said: "Iıve got nothing in my mind that says "Ellen, donıt do the Vendée Globe again!" Next to finish will be Sill sailed by Roland
Jourdain. ETA is mid day Tuesday. After that it's Active Wear over 1000 miles from the finish. UBP has managed to sail out to a nearly 100 mile over Sobedo. Finally, Whirlpool, Group 4, EBP-Gartmore and Voila Fr. have crossed the equator.
Ellen Macarthur Kingfisher "Other projects? Yes, the Transat
Jacques Vabre and thereıs a crewed transatlantic race I want to do this July.
It will be a bit bizarre to have other people on board though! I canıt imagine
my life without this boat...Without my boat I am nothing. Iım merely the
helmsman...If the race was going to start tomorrow you can bet your bottom
dollar that Iıd be on that start line again! It was the hardest race ever but
itıs very difficult to get off the boat...Sitting here alone makes it look like
Iıve done this on my own but itıs not just me, itıs the whole team. 95% of
the result has been thanks to them, theyıve helped me through the bad days,
theyıve prepared the best boat ever. Roland Jourdain Sill "My last hours? Im a bit behind on the office work so got some stuff to do. Im helming a lot, staying on deck savoring these final hours. Sill would like to go faster, always, but I say No, Im giving you the staysail and main sail and you just have to fly along with them." Current Weather Headwinds near the finish Weather Forecast High pressure off Spain and then moderate winds to the finish. What does it all mean Ellen Macarthur with youth, yet the experience of this successful race plus her fine boat will see more podium finishes.
